Now I am going to talk about the main topic today, that is, the UK government`s new measures announced on Friday 20th March 2020. You know, there were lots of Chinese people scolded me last week, because they believed the UK government was doing wrong measure and did nothing to contain the virus spreading, which caused lots of Chinese students in the UK flew back to China and brought the new virus spread in China. They thought UK government wanted to put 60% people to be infected by the coronavirus to create a ‘herd immunity’. I have explained this in my previous video, this is a complete misreading and misunderstanding for UK`s measure by the UK mass media, including Sky TV and many UK newspapers, and also by Chinese media.

Besides, such misunderstanding was also caused by the difference between the UK and China, e.g. for some things in the UK, Chinese can never understand, and vice versa. British people can neither understand why China would ban all nation’s people to go out at all, like an armed forced zone. For sure, by the UK’s politic system, they could never to able to do this. It’s impossible to do so in the western countries, I cannot say much, but in the western society and western countries, they can never force or disturb people’s freedom. For them, the human right is the first. So it’s impossible for them to do so, to order the whole nation stop going out.

Some Chinese self-media says, that UK was doing a trick, ‘They firstly announced that they won’t do anything to stop the virus spreading, to achieve a herd immunity with 60% population infected (I must say again, the UK government never said so, it was said by those UK media who misunderstood the government’s measure plan and then misled the mass people in the UK, hahaha…), such ‘do nothing’ policy scared all foreigner, students and non-UK residents fled back to their own countries, and then after all foreigners ran away, one week later, they begin to give their own nations cash bonus.’ Now the UK government begin to announce such a big plan, to give all the national residence cash.

This is a kind of saying in some Chinese self-media, and I have no comment. Because we have no evidence to say so, that the UK government is so cunning. Hahahaa…They firstly scared you out, and then close the door to give people cash. I personally don’t think it’s true. However, if you want to see things like this way, it’s up to you. I just regard it as a joke. Because at the end, this is a very serious matter relating to many people’s lives, so they won’t do anything like that just to save bonus to their own nation. What I personally understand of the UK government’s new policy, and why they have changed from last week to now – this is not really a change actually, but an update. Because on last Friday, 13^th March, when the PM said that we won’t close the school, and won’t shut down the city, when he was giving the minor measures, it was because the Chief scientific officer had worked with a group of scientists, who did a massive model calculation and worked out the numbers, the scientists already calculated that if they close all schools, what percentage of population could be reduced to be infected by the virus; and if they shut down the cities, what percentage of infected population could be reduced. It’s all about the scientific numbers.

However, at that point, the CSO Sir Patrick Vallance has said something very important, which was ignored by everyone, even until now, in my view, was that, as he said, of course you can lockdown the whole nation right now, stop everyone going out and stay at home, then of course, the infected number could be reduced to zero, as same as what China has done. But the problem is, if you do so, as soon as you open the doors again, everything will be coming back as same as right now. And then, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

So it doesn’t make any difference, at all. That’s why lockdown doesn’t make sense in long run, in any countries. Because the truth is, this Covid-19 virus, as CSO said, will live with all of us from now on, and forever. It can never disappear now. So no matter what we do, we can never kill the Covid-19 for good. Lockdown can only stop the infection for a short time when you stop people going out, but it cannot solve the problem at all. Because you cannot ban people going out for the rest of life, can you? That’s what I have been trying to explain to those Chinese people who thought UK should lockdown, for many many times. Because it won’t work.

So on 13^th March, absolutely based on the scientific fact and model calculation, the CSO and the PM announced the measure in the UK by that time, for the current condition. It was absolutely right and based on the scientific research, not as the UK media and Chinese thought, that the Chief scientific officer or PM were totally stupid or mad. That’s why the CSO advised PM, in long term, lockdown won’t work, and the only things could work are two:

The first one is the vaccine. But as we all know, it’s impossible to have this new Covid-19 virus vaccine within 18 months. To produce the Covid-19 vaccine, it has to take quite a long time to do all those research and scientific work, it’s not a one or two months’ job. It’s impossible to create any vaccine within a short period of time. It’s a science experiment and research, it’s very serious, so it’s not as you or anyone think, that it can be done like making a handcraft or a chair, you can simply speedy things up to make it by tomorrow.

In general, to create a vaccine would take three to five years as standard, so 18 months time is already super-fast, it couldn’t be faster. If you want to speedy it up to 12 months, it may cause problems, what if anyone injected this vaccine died? After all, to produce the vaccine, it’s like to make a weaker virus with less harmful result, and then inject it into a health human’s body. Once this health human already has this virus in his body, then when the real Covid-19 virus comes, his body already has its immunity so he won’t be infected anymore. That’s how vaccine works.

But you need to remember, it’s not 100% safe to inject vaccine. All current vaccine is not 100% safe, they all have either 1% or 0.01% chance to fail.
